Meet Acapulco, the famous destination to enjoy the sun and the beach in Mexico.

Acapulco’s sweep of endless Pacific beaches is a delight for tan seekers, joggers and laid-back vacationers. Local families gather on the sheltered coves of Playa Caleta for gentle lapping waters, while style-conscious residents fill the luxurious beach clubs of Acapulco Diamante. Find a spot under a coconut grove, sip some fresh passion fruit juice and succumb to the ocean breeze.

No Acapulco vacation is complete without sampling its seafood treats. Relish mouth-watering barbecued red snapper on Playa Hornitos beach, served fresh from the sea at Palapas (traditional shacks made from palm fronds). In-the-know locals feast on tacos de camarón (zesty shrimp and chilies wrapped in corn tortillas) on the Costera seafront at Pipo’s rustic benches. For fine dining, climb the eastern peninsula of Acapulco bay to the Brisas neighborhood – a Mecca of modern Mexican cuisine and glorious vistas.

The La Quebrada cliffs of Acapulco’s old town play host to a sunset, death-defying display. Onlookers hold their breath as divers launch themselves from high up the rock face down to the crashing waves below. La Perla’s terrace gives the best views of their courageous antics as the glowing Pacific sun slowly sinks below the horizon. Before heading back to your Acapulco hotel, take in the warm sea breeze and sample the legendary mango margaritas at the open-air bar of Las Brisas - an old favorite of one-time visitors Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.

Acapulco was Mexico’s original party town, with a stunning topography of soaring cliffs curling into a series of wide bays and intimate coves, fringed with sandy beaches and backed by jungle-green hills. It was dubbed the ‘Pearl of the Pacific’ during its heyday as a playground for the rich and famous, including Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor and Judy Garland. John F Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline honeymooned here, and it was immortalized in films such as Elvis’ Fun in Acapulco and TV’s The Love Boat.

  • La Quebrada Cliff Divers - No visit to Acapulco is complete without watching the cliff divers perform their impressive jumps into the shallow stream of water of dangerous tides that forms in the bottom part of La Quebrada.
  • Pie de la Cuesta - Pie de la Cuesta is a quiet strip of land roughly 10 kilometres northwest of Acapulco, bordered on one side by the Pacific Ocean and on the other by a freshwater lake (Laguna de Cuyoca) on the other. The lagoon is extremely tranquil, but tourists are advised not to enter the Pacific Ocean at Pie de la Cuesta, because the surf is very dangerous.
  • Isla de la Roqueta - Isla de la Roqueta has a beautiful beach with shallow areas for families to play. The harbour tour provides many sightseeing opportunities as well as seeing the yachts and homes of the rich and famous. As well, you can experience the cliff-divers’ show at La Quebrada, the submarine Virgin of Guadalupe, and see a diver with the tour swim under the boat with food to attract fish.
  • Most beaches are in the bay area fronting the main boulevard "La Costera". This bay area is what made Acapulco famous and its beauty and majesty have not faded over the years. Some of the most popular beaches inside the Bay and lining the Costera are Hornos, the traditional "afternoon beach", Papagayo, Tamarindos, and Icacos. Condesa beach at the east end of the bay is gay friendly. Caleta/Caletilla beaches and Langosta Beach are on the open ocean, and usually a bit cleaner. Most hotels in Acapulco are found along the Costera, and prices generally go down as you move west toward the Zócalo and old Acapulco.
